Ryan has the privilege of working with the super-talented Valerie Jar, a designer/illustrator. Despite the fact that it’s now June, once I saw her fabulous calendars I had to have one. I promised to bake her anything she’d like.

When Val requested lemon cupcakes, I immediately thought of this recipe from Take a Megabite. I’d been thinking of trying it with oranges for myself, and I probably still will. But for now, lemons.

cranberry-pistachio granola

After the said lovely family visit, I got up at the crack of dawn to decorate a zillion cupcakes at the bakery, and then passed out in a glorious nap. It was much needed. And then I woke up hungry for this granola from Peas and Thank You. I mean, really: it was the first thought on my mind when I woke up.

However, I didn’t have cherries or almonds. But I did have cranberries and pistachios, which just happens to be the best and prettiest granola I’ve made yet. And I like to make do. That’s just how my momma raised me.

rbb: icebox edition

My house is a mess, my blog is neglected, and my list of projects seems to be growing by the moment. But I had a beautiful week with my family. And I have this.

My family came to town for a week and I just didn’t want to think of anything else, so I pretty much didn’t. And thanks to many delicious dinners out, we didn’t really eat dessert all week. Can you believe it? Me either.

I was thus left with this angel food cake, which we bought to eat with an abundance of strawberries and never did. The other day after everyone had boarded their flights and the house was quiet, I remembered reading a recipe for strawberry icebox cake on Apartment Therapy. They used graham crackers, but if life gives you angel food cake, why not use it, right?
